Guangdong LNG Terminal and Trunkline Project is the core project of The Guangdong LNG Project which is the first pilot project in China for the importation of LNG that consists of 14 interrelated projects with independent legal entities, with total investment of over RMB 30 billion.

Against the current world economic landscape, a steady energy supply becomes the cornerstone to the sustainable economic development in any region. Natural gas is a safe, clean and reliable supply of energy. It plays a vital role in the energy structure in the Pearl River Delta area.

As the first import LNG project in China, GDLNG is being supplied an annual gas supply of 3.7 million tons by a 25 year LNG contract with Australia’s Northwest LNG Company Ltd.

Sixty-five percent of the imported LNG is used for power generation customers, while the remaining 35% is allocated to town gas customers Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Foshan and Hong Kong. The Guangdong LNG Project plays an important role in easing energy supply demands in large parts of Guangdong Province. Meanwhile, the supply of this clean and cost-effective energy to Guangdong and Hong Kong would result in a cleaner environment across the region.

On 17 April 2010, The Young Member Section of IMechE Hong Kong Branch has obtained a special chance to visit the Dapeng LNG Receiving Terminal. It is so worthwhile to go that you cannot afford to miss it.

Members, act now, before it is too late.
